Group Therapy for Adults of Emotionally Immature Parents
VIRTUAL THERAPY IN TAMPA AND THROUGHOUT FL & TX
You’re not alone
Growing up with an emotionally immature parent often meant there wasn’t space for your feelings or needs. You learned to adapt by becoming small, silencing needs & wants, and keeping the peace.
Group therapy offers a space to unlearn those previously adaptive behaviors— which if you’re here means they’re no longer helping you. You get to connect with others who get it, explore how your past shaped you. and heal childhood wounds so you can mold the present into how you want it.
It’s time to heal
Why Group Therapy?
Shared Understanding
Most group members say: "I thought I was the only one." Hearing your experience reflected by others can be profoundly validating.Rewriting Relationship Patterns
You’ll get to practice setting boundaries, expressing needs, and staying present—skills you didn’t get to develop in childhood.Real-Time Healing
In a group, you can notice when you’re shrinking, pleasing, or over explaining—and try something different.Affirming Connection
This work can feel isolating. Group therapy helps you reconnect—with your voice, your emotions, and people who understand.
Is Group Therapy right for you?
How Group Therapy Is Different from Individual Therapy
1. Focus of the Work
Individual Therapy centers on your personal history, internal thoughts, and emotional processing. It’s about understanding your story.
Group Therapy focuses on how you relate to others. It explores patterns in how you connect, communicate, and respond in real-time relationships.
In group, you learn about yourself through your interactions with others.
2. Feedback and Perspective
Individual Therapy offers feedback from one trusted expert—your therapist.
Group Therapy provides multiple perspectives. You hear how others experience you, which can reveal blind spots or validate parts of yourself you’ve long questioned.
Group gives you a mirror you didn’t know you needed.
3. Relational Practice
Individual Therapy is safe and focused, but it’s still a one-on-one relationship with a professional.
Group Therapy gives you the chance to practice boundary-setting, assertiveness, or vulnerability in real time with peers.
You don’t just talk about your patterns—you start to shift them.
4. Pacing and Attention
Individual Therapy moves at your pace and can dive deeply into complex or sensitive topics.
Group Therapy is shared. Each person has less individual airtime, and the group’s needs influence the session’s flow.
Group is slower, but it often moves you in ways individual therapy cannot.
5. Connection and Community
Individual Therapy can feel more private and emotionally safe, especially early in healing.
Group Therapy adds the power of shared experience—hearing "me too" from others who genuinely understand.
Group helps break the isolation that many people carry silently.
What You’ll Likely Enjoy:
You feel seen and understood—often for the first time
Practice setting limits, disagreeing, or expressing needs
Learn from people ahead of you on the healing path
Normalize experiences that used to feel "too much"
More affordable than weekly individual therapy
What You Might Dislike:
May feel vulnerable at first to open up in front of others
Group pace may feel slow or not always focused on your specific story
Triggers can come up (and become growth opportunities)
Requires commitment to showing up consistently for yourself and the group
Many clients find that both types of therapy complement each other well. Individual therapy helps you understand your wounds. Group therapy helps you heal them in connection with others.
